Calling all foot fetishists – the vajankle is the sex toy for you
by Siam Goorwich

The vajankle – the ultimate foot fetishists sex toy (Picture: Sin Boutique)

The vajankle – as its name suggests – is the unholy union of a vagina and an ankle… and it’s as disturbing as it sounds.

Unless you have a serious foot fetish that is, in which case, we’d imagine, it’s serious good times. Sin boutique – the website selling them – explains: ‘These quirky feet have a vagina built right in at the ankle!’ They go on: ‘The vajankle is in the left foot only. You can order the vajankle independently, or as a pair with the standard right foot.’

Silicone SHORT Feet - Vajankle These quirky feet have a vagina built right in at the ankle! The vajankle is in the left foot only. You can order the vajankle independently, or as a pair with the standard right foot.

We’re not sure what’s more disturbing – the fact it’s so realistic or the fact it has a French manicure (Picture: Sin Boutique)

This level of sexy silicone foot times doesn’t come cheap. In fact, the vajankle costs a toe-curling $179 (approximately £118). Still, it’s a small price to pay for your very own shaggable foot, eh?

Safety over sexy: Airport security stops woman with dangerous shoes
March 1, 2016

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) -- At the airport, safety is more important than sexy.

That's what a woman found out at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Officials say she was stopped Sunday at a security checkpoint with a pair of gun-shaped stiletto heels. TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says the stilettos had heels in the shape of handguns and faux bullets around the sole. They were in the woman's carry-on luggage, along with bracelets lined in faux bullets.

The agency prohibits passengers from carrying "replica guns or ammunition" through airport security checkpoints. Farbstein says the woman was told that she could put the items in her checked luggage. The woman tried to check the items, but ended up leaving them with the TSA in order to catch her flight.

This woman is using her vagina to knit all the misogynistic abuse she gets online because she doesn't care what you think

by Bethan McKernan
1 March 2016

Photo: Screenshot via YouTube

Casey Jenkins is knitting a permanent record of all the misogynistic abuse she gets online with her bloody human vagina, and there's nothing meninists can do about it.

The Australian artist's 2013 performance piece 'Casting Off My Womb' featured her knitting a long passage from yarn she inserted into her vagina every day for 28 days. The white wool turned red and then back to white again with her menstrual cycle.

Image

Jenkins said it was: ...a long, slow meditation on the intimate understanding we have of our own bodies and creative potential and how it's impacted by societal stereotypes and expectations.

But of course, because it's the 21st century and the internet is a thing we all have, she got thousands upon thousands of abusive messages from online trolls who just couldn't let her do her thing without threatening rape or telling Jenkins she's ugly. But the artist's follow up act is probably the most flipping the bird response she could have had: for her second vaginal knitting performance, Jenkins is making a record of all the abuse that's thrown at her online.

Image

Some say the perceived anonymity of the internet creates and fosters sexist attitudes. I'd be more inclined to say it exposes them, like lifting a rock to reveal a bed of slugs. One of the saddest and most interesting things about the gendered abuse she has received, Jenkins says, is that so much of it comes from people who present as women.

...the very people who would themselves be the target of abuse if they ever stepped into the spotlight in a way not deemed to support dominant culture.

It made me reflect on the immense power our society has over us... the power of social shaming in directing behaviour and shaping culture should not be underestimated. While the project has been emotionally and physically difficult, Casey says it's better to deal with online abuse in the open rather than go with the prevailing advice of 'just don't read the comments'.

I don't want to be crushed by reality, but I don't want to blinker myself to it, either.

If you're in Melbourne, 'Programmed to Reproduce' will be at North Melborne Town Hall until 13th March as part of the 2016 Festival of Live Art.

Love is in the armpit at New York's Smell Dating
24 March 2016
By Barbara Goldberg and Angela Moore

Love at first whiff is the idea behind Smell Dating, a New York matchmaking service that promises to help single people sniff out their perfect match by breathing in the odors from dirty T-shirts.

Artist Tega Brain, who teaches at New York's School for Poetic Computation, and Sam Lavigne, an editor and researcher at New York University, created Smell Dating, which they describe as an art project. Each of its first 100 clients received a T-shirt to wear for three days straight without bathing. The clients then mailed the T-shirts back to Brain and Lavigne's "Sweat Shop" at NYU, where they were cut into swatches. Smell Dating then sent batches of 10 mixed swatches back to the clients to sniff this week. A match will be made if one client likes the scent of another and the olfactory attraction is mutual. In other words, if "Client 55" likes "Client 69" and vice versa, put a heart around it, Brain said.

The idea is based on the science of pheromones, the chemical signals that creatures from gerbils to giraffes send out to entice mates. Clients, who pay a one-time fee of $25, dive in nose-first, unaware of a potential smell-mate's age, gender or sexual orientation. "Most normal dating services, you rely on profile pictures, assumptions that come from visual information," Brain said. "You either really like the smell of someone or you don't. It's much more innate."

On Wednesday, 25-year-old NYU graduate student Jesse Donaldson excitedly opened the package of white swatches in individually numbered plastic bags that had arrived at his apartment in Brooklyn. He said he hoped Smell Dating could help where other popular matchmaking services had failed. "I'm like so many other people in New York City, using Tinder, using OK Cupid," Donaldson said, "and my main issue with these things is you feel like you're shopping for somebody as opposed to making a genuine connection with another human being."

Brain said she and Lavigne consulted "a lot of smell researchers" about their art project, which explores whether a person's body odor can trigger Cupid's arrow. "We wanted to see if people would be interested in meeting other people just based on this one bit of information rather than this avalanche of information that you usually get," said Lavigne as he watched volunteers wearing hooded white jumpsuits and blue rubber gloves cut up the worn T-shirts at the Sweat Shop. "Whoa! This one is ready to go!" said a worker, wincing as he sniffed a swatch before putting it into a plastic bag marked #34.

In Brooklyn, Donaldson tore into the first plastic bag, removed the swatch and sniffed. "Fresh-done laundry," he said. He opened another and inhaled. "Oh. That is nutty. I'm just going to seal that back up." Then he brought yet another swatch to his nostrils, nodded and said, "Oh." He savored a second whiff and added, "That's my match."

Scholar who put pants on rats to study their sex lives wins Ig Nobel
By MARK PRATT
September 22, 2016

BOSTON (AP) -- An Egyptian doctor who put pants on rats to study their sex lives has been named as one of the winners of the Ig Nobels, the annual spoof prizes for quirky scientific achievement.

The winners were honored - or maybe dishonored - Thursday in a zany ceremony at Harvard University. The 26th annual event featured a paper airplane air raid and a tic-tac-toe contest with a brain surgeon, a rocket scientist and four real Nobel laureates. Winners receive $10 trillion cash prizes - in virtually worthless Zimbabwean money.

This year's Ig Nobels, sponsored by the science humor magazine Annals of Improbable Research, included research by Ahmed Shafik, who decided rats needed pants. He dressed his rodents in polyester, cotton, wool and polyester-cotton blend pants to determine the different textiles' effects on sex drive. The professor at Cairo University in Egypt, who died in 2007, found that rats that wore polyester or polyester blend pants displayed less sexual activity, perhaps because of the electrostatic charges created by polyester. He suggested that the results could be applied to humans.

The study did not explain how he measured a rat's waist and inseam.

Condoms featuring Luther quotes banned by German Protestants
17 March 2017

Dusseldorf (dpa) - Germany's Protestant Church has ordered the suspension of a local initiative to distribute condoms featuring quotes from Protestant reformer Martin Luther.

In a statement released Friday, the Protestant Church in Germany's Rhine region said that the initiative - meant to spread Luther's teachings 500 years after the Reformation - was "fundamentally inappropriate." A church in Dusseldorf had been distributing condoms featuring Luther quotes, including "Here I stand, I can do no other," and other slogans such as "For whores and saints," to young people in an effort to create awareness of Luther's teachings.

"It would be best if the condoms are destroyed on site so that no more enter circulation," Klaus Eberl, head of the consistory, said in the statement. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the year that Martin Luther launched his efforts to reform the Catholic Church. The publication of his 95 Theses is considered a seminal event in the creation of the Protestant Church.

German man's penis gets stuck in gym weight plate, rescue effort takes 3 hours
16 September 2017

A man in the German city of Worms had his penis stuck in the hole of a 2.5kg gym weight plate on Friday, forcing fire-fighters to use power tools to free it.

The city's fire brigade posted an account of the incident on its Facebook page, accompanied by a photo of the weight plate broken into five pieces. It was called in to help after doctors at a local hospital were unable to remove the plate, German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported.

The man had to be sedated before firefighters, using angle grinders and a hydraulic rescue device, succeeded in breaking the plate. The entire rescue effort took three hours. In its Facebook post, the fire brigade also advised the public not to "imitate such actions". It was not clear what exercise the man was doing that landed him in the predicament.

Kinky sex has its day at SF’s Folsom Street Fair
By Joaquin Palomino
September 25, 2017

A line of men and women decked out in leather, leashes and lingerie waited to be flogged and spanked in an enclosed stage as hundreds of spectators watched and snapped photos Sunday.

It was just another day at the Folsom Street Fair, a celebration of all things kink and an annual San Francisco event since 1984. Tens of thousands of fans of bondage, discipline and sadomasochism — along with the merely curious — filled the South of Market street. “It gives people the opportunity to experience something they might not otherwise feel safe doing,” said Beatrice Stone, who was coordinating the spanking and flogging to raise money for local charities. “If someone comes for the first time, we make sure it’s safe — we have experienced tops.”

Zack, 25, made a spur-of-the-moment decision to be flogged onstage. The South Bay resident, who declined to give his last name, said it was “pretty fun” — the organizers made sure he felt comfortable, and they checked in often to see that he was OK as his legs became weaker from the lashing. “It’s great to have a space where we can come out and not feel so weird about being weird,” Zack said.

As the sun beat down on the self-proclaimed “world’s biggest leather event,” bare skin was on full display, with many people walking the street fully naked. On one large stage in the middle of the festival, near-naked men simulated sex as the crowd called out suggestions. Nearby, dozens of people dressed up as dogs barked and howled in a large pen. At other booths, people were intricately bound in rope.

The fair, which had a suggested $10 entrance fee, raises money for community groups. The nonprofit that organizes it and other events says it has donated nearly $6 million to charities since the festival began.

While many of the booths were hawking sex toys, others were advocating for safer sex and services directed toward the LGBT community. Black Brothers Esteem, a support program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation that works with gay and bisexual African American men, was handing out condoms and information about HIV prevention.

Tony Bradford, the program’s assistant director of community engagement, said it was the program’s first year at the festival. The group decided to participate after hearing that the event had become more diverse, he said. “People of color who used to be closeted kinky are out now,” said Bradford, who has been coming to the fair for years. “I’ve never seen a crowd here this diverse.”

Thierry Rocchia, 52, said he knew of the fair only from photos until he attended Sunday. He said he expected it would be rougher, but was pleasantly surprised by the “friendly and fun atmosphere.” “There’s nothing like this in the United Kingdom, and I’m not sure we could have a festival like it there,” the London resident said.

Melvin Morgan, who has been coming to the Folsom Street Fair since the 1990s, said it has become more “touristy” over the years. But one thing hasn’t changed, he said: the fair’s body-positive atmosphere. “People are walking around naked and bare, and I love that,” he said. “We came into this world naked, and that’s how it should be.”

Amazon drops sale of circumcision kit in UK after complaint
20 December 2017

LONDON (AP) -- The British arm of Amazon has dropped sale of a circumcision training kit from its website after concerns were raised.

The kit had been offered by a third party seller and offered instructions and instruments that could be used to practice circumcision on a model of male genitals. Circumcision consists of removing part of the foreskin of the penis and is typically done for religious or medical purposes on very young boys.

The National Secular Society in Britain complained to Amazon that the training kit violated Amazon's standard's policy. The group said it feared the sale of the kit would encourage unqualified practitioners to carry out unneeded surgery in non-clinical conditions.
