CHIDAMBARAM, Tamil Nadu, India -- Two weeks after the murder of an 11-year-old boy here, the police arrested the killer, a college student and a relative of the victim, on Monday evening.

According to sources, Murugan (name changed) a class VI student of a government school near Kattumannarkoil, was residing along with his mother and two siblings at Pappanthoppu village. His father, a resident of Thevankudi near Vriddhachalam, is working abroad.

On April 12, Murugan went missing from home and on Sunday afternoon, he was found dead with his throat slit at a grove about 200 metres away from his house. The Kattumannarkoil police had registered a case and began investigations amid protests by the villagers and the boy’s relatives who demanded speedy arrest of the murderer. On Monday (April 28), the police took Sathish (24), a relative of the victim, for questioning. During the inquiry, it came to light that Sathish, a homosexual, had murdered the boy.

Police sources said, “Sathish was a resident of Devanapathur near Pappanthoppu. He is in the second year of graduation at a private college in Thathanur. He had forced the boy to watch porn videos on his mobile phone and laptop several times and also had sex with him. Fearing that the boy might reveal this to someone, Sathish brought the boy to the grove nearby and killed him by slitting his throat.”

Gay activist and lawyer murdered execution style at gas station in Minnesota - ex-boyfriend sought by police
14 August 2014
By Greg Hernandez

A well-known businessman in Minnesota was shot execution style outside a gas station in Minnesota this week (12 August) and police suspect his ex-boyfriend and former business partner is the killer.

Kelly Phillips, 48, was killed after being shot in the back then in the head and the gunman then ran over his body as he drove away from the gas station in the city of Arden Hills.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, a man who was filling his gas tank saw the two men drive up in a BMW and heard yelling. He watched as the two men got out of the car and the driver shot the other man three times — the last shot being in the head from close range as Phillips pleaded for his life.

Lyle 'Ty' Hoffman, 44, has been identified as the suspect by police and remains at large. The two men had a relationship that spanned about a decade but had stopped being romantic three years ago. Phillips was engaged to marry another man later this year. Their business relationship continued until earlier this year with Hoffman working at the northeast Minneapolis gay bar Lush Food Bar that they opened five years ago.

Phillips owned the bar as well as the home near the bar Hoffman was living in and that his ex had evicted him from several months ago. The victim had worked for 14 years as vice president and chief counsel of worldwide businesses for medical device giant Boston Scientific. He also championed marriage equality and was politically active in the community.

City Council Member Jacob Frey told the newspaper: 'While he had money, he just didn’t donate. He was knocking on dorm room doors for marriage equality. He didn’t just sit up on his perch and look down at the world. He got his hands dirty and worked the community.'

As Hoffman remained at large Wednesday (13 August), his sister told the Star-Tribune that her brother had been 'pushed to the brink' by Phillips. Dawn Gominsky said it was her fugitive bother who came up with the whole idea for the bar and that Phillips had misled him into thinking he was part owner. Phillips 'basically screwed him out of his whole life,' Gominsky said. 'Kelly was a sneaky lawyer who screwed him. ... I’m sure he snapped. His life was sucked out of him.'

New Zealander charged with sex assaults on drugged backpackers
September 10, 2014

Image

Wellington (AFP) - A New Zealand hotelier allegedly videotaped himself indecently assaulting at least 16 foreign male tourists after drugging them while they stayed at his backpacker lodge, police said Wednesday.

Police said 56-year-old Michael Harris appeared in court on 39 charges including indecent assault, drugging a victim and making and possessing intimate recordings. They said the alleged sex attacks were carried out on 16 males aged between 18 and 25 over the past three years at a backpacker lodge in the North Island town of Kaitaia, which is in the popular Northland tourist area.

All of the men whom Harris is accused of attacking were international tourists, police said. They did not release their nationalities. Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said there could be more victims and appealed for them to come forward. "These victims are unlikely to know that something has happened to them, although they may have suspicions," he said. "We will deal sensitively with them and offer all appropriate support required."

'Bisexual' Dewani pleads not guilty of Cape Town honeymoon murder
By Lawrence Bartlett
October 6, 2014

Cape Town (AFP) - British millionaire Shrien Dewani pleaded not guilty to murdering his young bride while on a honeymoon in Cape Town and admitted he was bisexual, in an explosive opening to his long-awaited trial Monday.

Glancing nervously around court and clad in a sombre suit and tie, Dewani told the court he was "not guilty" of charges of murder, kidnapping and obstructing justice. For three years he had fought extradition to South Africa, where he is now being tried for killing Swedish-born bride Anni (nee Hindocha), who was shot dead on November 13, 2010, aged 28.

In a statement read by defence layer Francois van Zyl, Dewani admitted he was bisexual, but said he was "instantly physically attracted" to Anni and came to love her. "There was no doubt in my mind that I loved Anni and that I wanted to create a future for both of us," the statement said. He was sent back to South Africa in April to answer charges and was declared mentally fit to stand trial.

Dewani claims that he and his bride were hijacked at gunpoint as they drove through Cape Town's impoverished Gugulethu township in a taxi. Dewani escaped unharmed, but his wife's body was found in the abandoned car the next day. The court was shown graphic footage of the crime scene, including images of Anni's body prompting audible gasps from Anni's family.

The prosecution is expected to argue that Dewani is gay and was so desperate to escape an arranged marriage that he hired hitmen to kill his bride on their honeymoon. One of the main witnesses for the prosecution will be a sado-masochism "master" who will claim that Dewani paid him for sex.

Gay prostitute Leopold Leisser is said to have claimed in a statement to British police that Dewani had told him he was getting married to a "lovely girl", but he needed "to find a way out of it". "I've had sexual interaction with both males and females. I consider myself bisexual," Dewani's statement said. "My sexual interactions with males were mostly physical experiences or email chats with people I met online or in clubs, including prostitutes."

Justice and closure

Three South Africans have been tried and convicted and are serving jail sentences of between 18 years and life for their role in Anni Dewani's death.

Taxi driver Zola Tongo admitted guilt in a plea bargain along with another man, Mziwamadoda Qwabe. The two were sentenced to 18 and 25 years in prison respectively. A third man, Xolile Mngeni, was later found guilty of firing the shot that killed Anni Dewani and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Tongo's claim that Shrien Dewani had offered him 15,000 rand ($1,300, 1,000 euros) to have Anni killed is expected to play a key role in the prosecution's arguments.

The case has angered many in South Africa who accuse Dewani of callously using the country's reputation for violent crime to murder his wife in the belief that he would get away with it. Anni's family said it has been "a period of torture" since her death.

Image

"All I ask for is the full story and justice," Anni's father Vinod Hindocha told reporters in Cape Town on Sunday. Another family member, Anni's uncle Ashok Hindocha, said they hoped the trial would help them get on with their lives. "We are not going to get Anni back... but we need to know the truth so we can move on," he told a news conference.

Dewani fought a long legal battle to avoid being extradited from Britain to South Africa, claiming he had mental health problems, including depression and post-traumatic stress. But an assessment by South African psychiatric experts found he was "not mentally ill" and fit to stand trial. Both Dewani and Anni are of Indian origin, from what news reports have described as devout Hindu families. Anni's cousin Sneha Hindocha, in a statement cited by South Africa's The Sunday Independent, chronicles a rocky 17-month courtship during which Anni repeatedly felt sexually rejected by Dewani.

The trial is set to run into December.

Brisbane trans murder: Mayang Prasetyo killed and cooked by chef husband
October 7, 2014

A woman brutally murdered and cooked by her husband in their Brisbane apartment has been identified as a transsexual “high-class” prostitute whose sex work paid for her family’s education in Indonesia.

Parts of Mayang Prasetyo’s body were found strewn around the inner-city apartment she shared with husband Marcus Peter Volke, 28, who was found boiling her body parts in chemicals on a stove and slit his own throat after fleeing from police on Sunday.

Ms Prasetyo, a 27-year-old sex worker, was charging up to $500 an hour for her services as a “top high-class Asian shemale” the Courier-Mail reported, but dreamt of one day transitioning to “complete womanhood” and becoming a mother. She had married chef Peter Volke in 2013 after the pair met on a cruise ship, according to friends, and had moved with her husband to Brisbane. The pair appeared to live comfortably in the modern Teneriffe apartment they had shared for three months.

Friends and family back in Indonesia are mourning the loss of “Febri”, as Ms Prasetyo is also known. Her mother, Nining Sukarni, told the Courier-Mail her eldest child paid to “put the sisters through school”.

Ads reveal Ms Prasetyo charged from $200 to $500 for her services as an “international escort”. “Better in real life. Pictures are always real. Real deal pre-op functional hot TS. With a great fit and hot body to enjoy,” one advertisement read. Another advertisement posted by the transsexual while she was in London last year described her as ‘busty’ and ‘extra hot in bed’ with a ‘big banana’, the Daily Mail reports.

Friends of Ms Prasetyo have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to the “larger than life” woman, and have remembered her as a “beautiful angel”.

A former lover of Ms Prasetyo said she was “a true leader and a brave and courageous being”. “I knew I had met an awesome person and made a new friend that I would never wish to lose ...,” Brad Whitehouse wrote. “It breaks my heart that so many of her friends, particularly in Indonesia will be devastated, and of course her family whom she had the spirit of utmost protection and betterment for.” In the same post, Whitehouse wrote of his friend’s dream of one day becoming a mum. “Mayang lived as a female and wished to make that big step one day and establish into complete womanhood, adopt, be a mother and a successful businesswoman,” he said.

Tributes have also been paid online to the pair by friends who remember them as a “happy married couple”, and family of the pair have said they showed no signs of problems in their relationship in the weeks that led to both their deaths.

Mr Volke was originally from Ballarat, and had met his wife while working on a cruise ship. A school friend told his home town paper, the Courier, he was “a little different”. “He was a good guy, he was a bit up and down, he could lose his temper like anyone can but for the most part he was just like anyone else. He was just one of the boys,” he said. “He was always a little different. He wasn’t a happy-go-lucky guy like the rest of us — he was a bit dark.”

Volke’s mother, Dorothy, said she had spoken with her son just a week before and he seemed “normal”. “He was happy and he was coming home for Christmas, everything was normal,” she told the Courier Mail. “He’d been on a ship, going from one country to another. They hadn’t been in Brisbane for very long, only a few months. They were starting to get settled.” Mrs Volke said that although her son seemed normal, she hadn’t seen him in around 18 months. “We didn’t know what was going on,” she said.

Friends of Ms Prasetyo have since revealed they had concerns about her husband saying he came across “extremely cold”. Neighbours have also reported fighting coming from the apartment and it has emerged Mr Volke attended a hospital late last week and told staff his partner cut him in a domestic incident, according to the Courier Mail. It was reports of a sickening stench, which one neighbour likened to dog food, that led police to knock on the door of the pair’s apartment to find the grisly scene.

Police discovered Mr Volke in the filthy apartment, cooking body parts over the stove. When the man fled he inflicted a fatal knife wound to his throat, and detectives are treating the incident as a murder suicide. Investigations are continuing into the horrific ordeal, and delving into the life of the chef who had no criminal history.

Kentucky gang rape: 15-year-old boy left in critical condition after sexual attack by group at party
by Loulla-Mae Eleftheriou-Smith
Sunday, 19 October 2014

Samuel Miller, Tyler Perry and Dayton Ross Jones have all been held on $1m bail. Christian County Jail

A 15-year-old boy has been left in a critical condition in hospital after he was gang raped by three men and two older teenagers at a party in Kentucky.

The boy’s attackers allegedly filmed his assault on a mobile phone before distributing it to other mobile phones, police said. The authorities do not know if the footage was distributed online.

Tyler Perry, 19, Dayton Ross Jones, 20, and Samuel Miller, 18, have been charged with serious sexual assault, promoting sexual performance by a minor and use of a minor in a sexual performance. All three are being held on a $1 million (£621,450) each. Two 17-year-olds have also been accused of assaulting the boy last Sunday at a party in Hopkinsville, about 75 miles northwest of Nashville. Hopkinsville Christian County Jail said the two 17-year-olds are being processed separately.

The boy is still in Clarksville hospital but is improving, Chris Miller, spokesman for the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, said. Both Jones and Miller face further charges of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, while Perry has been charged with tampering physical evidence.

Male military sex assault victims slow to complain
8 December 2014
By LOLITA C. BALDOR

Image

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Greg Nelson had just turned 21 when he went out partying with friends in Southern California and got really drunk.

So, when a man he didn't know offered to let him crash in a nearby apartment, his friends urged him to accept. A Marine who had joined the Corps in 2007, Nelson remembers getting sick and being offered water that seemed to have white specks in it. He said the man then offered him another glass of water and a pill that was supposedly Motrin. What happened next is a bit of a blur to Nelson, who says he blacked out and woke up feeling like he was "in a vegetative state." He remembers the man sexually assaulting him, but says he couldn't move and blacked out again.

Sexual assaults on men in the military happen more often than people might think. But Nelson, who left the Marine Corps in 2011 as a corporal, is one of the rare men willing to report it and talk about it openly. According to an anonymous survey released last week by the Pentagon, nearly 1 percent of males in the U.S. military said they had experienced unwanted sexual contact, compared to 4.3 percent of women. That equates to about 10,500 men and 8,500 women. Yet only 14 percent of assaults reported last year involved male victims.

Afraid to be seen as victims or as weak or gay, men in the hyper-masculine military culture often don't feel comfortable reaching out for help or reporting sexual assaults. Over the past year, though, the services have increased efforts to reach out to male victims, urging them to come forward so they can receive treatment and so officials can go after perpetrators. The campaign urges troops to intervene in potential assault situations, and not just when the victim is a woman. Troops are pressed to report any assault, even ones prior to their enlistment or that involve civilian attackers.

"The question is, `Is our population in the military ready to talk about this?'" says Nate Galbreath, senior executive adviser for the Pentagon's sexual assault prevention office. "We want to get them there. But it's going to be bit by bit. Because it's very, very hard for people to think about someone who is a soldier and is strong" as a victim of sexual assault.

Military leaders turned for advice to Jim Hopper, a Harvard University expert on male sexual abuse. "In our culture in general, to be sexually assaulted is completely the opposite of what men are supposed to experience," he says, noting a common belief that, "men aren't supposed to be sexually dominated, they're not supposed to express vulnerable feelings."

While people may question how a burly infantry officer or Marine could be assaulted, often he is drunk, passed out or asleep. One Army commander recalled an incident in which one of his soldiers was drunk and woke up to find he was being sexually accosted by another drunken soldier. The two men ended up fighting, and it took months for Army investigators to sort out the situation. In many cases, the commander said, there are conflicting stories, and in the time it takes to finish an investigation victims can spiral out of control as they struggle to deal with the incident.

Investigators eventually solved the case, and both soldiers ended up leaving the Army - one for committing the assault and the other for discipline issues brought on by it. The commander spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case. According to Hopper and other experts, sexual assault is more about power and control than sex, and has little to do with homosexual behavior. Aggressors almost always identify themselves as heterosexual, said Hopper.

In May, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered the military services to increase their efforts to encourage men to report assaults. The services already had started putting together training materials aimed at male victims. Videos included scenarios of troops drinking and discussions about when to intervene and what to do if a perpetrator is of higher rank. The services are learning that they should tailor their approaches differently for men and women, after initially thinking all the training materials should be gender-neutral. "There are differences that we need to acknowledge and build our programs around," said Col. Scott Jensen, director of the Marine Corps sexual assault prevention program. Hopper said he told military officials they also needed to better promote their confidential hotline because many men "are not going to feel safe as the first step going and talking to someone on their base."

For Nelson, reporting the assault to his Marine commanders was indeed difficult. "I had to swallow a lot of pride," he said. "It's a sense of embarrassment, a sense of fear, and you don't want to be looked down on by your peers." Nelson, who now lives in San Diego, said that talking about the 2010 assault has helped him heal. He has spoken at sexual assault prevention conferences and done some training videos. "I had never before seen a male survivor speak out," said Nelson, who said he reported the incident to the police but his attacker was never charged because there was no forensic evidence. "I wanted people to understand it could happen to anyone."

It seems the military's new approach is having an effect.

Jill Loftus, director of the Navy's sexual assault prevention program, said the number of reports filed by male sailors and Marines this year has tripled. "It tells me they understand what constitutes sexual assault in the first place and they're tired of the behavior and they're not going to put up with it," said Loftus. She noted that in many cases, the assault involves some type of unwanted touching, rather than more aggressive behavior. Troops now see that "that's unacceptable behavior, that leadership is not going to put up with it and they're not going to put up with it," she said.

Chef died after being wrapped in clingfilm during sex game, court told
Tuesday, 2 December 2014

A head chef for P&O Ferries died during a sex game after being wrapped in plastic sheeting and clingfilm, a court has heard.

Alun Williams, 47, was unable to regulate his body temperature after being bound and suffered dehydration that triggered a heart attack, the jury at Canterbury crown court was told on Tuesday. The chef, who lived with his girlfriend, had an interest in bondage and mummification and would meet men online for sex, the trial heard.

Richard Bowler, 35, and David Connor, 23, from Canterbury, have been charged with manslaughter. They also face an alternative charge of manslaughter by gross negligence, which they deny. Bowler, who has cerebral palsy which affects his coordination and movement, wept loudly as Ian Hope, prosecuting, opened the case.

Hope said Bowler and Connor lived together in a flat in Dover, Kent, with Connor acting as Bowler’s informal carer. Shortly after 6am on 20 August last year, Connor walked into the taxi rank where his mother worked and said: “Mum, Richard’s killed someone,” the court was told. He mentioned bondage and a muscle relaxant and told his mother the man was dead.

Bowler, after making a phone call to his brother and texting his sister-in-law for help, phoned the police at 5.53am and told them he had been involved in a “kinky sex session” with a friend who was wrapped up and had stopped breathing, the court heard. He was put through to the ambulance service and told them Williams had taken the drug ketamine. Hope said Bowler cut open the clingfilm and plastic sheeting to perform CPR and told the emergency services: “I thought he was just sleeping. I am sorry, I should have called before. He takes ketamine and that mongs him out.”

The court heard that Williams was found wrapped tightly from head to toe in the plastic sheeting and clingfilm, with a space left around his nose and mouth so he could breathe. A hood had been placed over his head, allegedly at Williams’s request, and sexual acts involving the three men had taken place, the court was told.

Connor told the police that he left the flat at midnight after Bowler told him he had a man coming round for a sex session, the jury heard. He said he returned at 1am and Bowler told him that Williams had wanted to be wrapped in clingfilm. Hope said police found drugs including ketamine, cocaine, methamphetamine and amyl nitrate, otherwise known as poppers, in Williams’s rucksack. They also found a gas mask and ties in his bag. Sex toys, masking tape, duct tape, black plastic sheeting and clingfilm were also found in the flat, the jury heard. A laptop found in Williams’s car showed he had an interest in bondage and mummification, the court heard.

A postmortem examination on his body confirmed he had died suddenly after body-wrapping while under the influence of ketamine and methamphetamine.

The trial continues.

Persecution of India's sexual minorities surges after court ruling
By Nita Bhalla
December 11, 2014

Indian transgenders in Mumbai delighted after the Supreme Court granted recognition to them

NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - There has been a surge in crimes against India's sexual minorities, including rape, assault, blackmail and harassment, since the country's top court reinstated a ban on gay sex a year ago, activists said on Thursday.

The Supreme Court, ending four years of decriminalisation that had helped bring homosexuality into the open in this deeply conservative country, ruled in December last year that only parliament could change a colonial-era law banning homosexual sex.

Activists said the ruling had resulted in a marked increase in the persecution of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people, forcing many to conceal their sexual identity. "Across the country, we are getting many more reports about threats, intimidation, police harassment, rapes and especially cases of blackmail and extortion," said Abhina Aher, programme manager for Pehchan, a charity providing healthcare for sexual minorities. "People have gone back into the closet after the Supreme Court ruling. There is no doubt about that. There is so much more fear than before." Aher, who was speaking at an event marking the first anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, said her organisation had recorded 2,064 cases of violence against sexual minorities in the past year, but had no figure for previous years.

In the past year, police have raided homes and arrested LGBT people, while extortion rackets by people in internet chat rooms posing as gays to entrap people were mushrooming, she said. Victims from New Delhi, and states such as Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, used the event to tell stories of abuse and discrimination since the Supreme Court ruling.

One transgender woman spoke of being pulled into a car by four men at night and gang raped. When she reported the attack, she was treated like a criminal by police, she said. A gay man told of being entrapped by a man he met in a gay internet chat room. When they met in a hotel room, the man stole his wallet and extorted money from him, saying he would tell the victim's colleagues and family about his sexual identity. "I didn't know what to do and whether to go to the police. I was scared ... what they would do to me," said the man, who did not wish to be identified, but said he was from the business city of Mumbai.

In 2009, the Delhi High Court ruled unconstitutional a law dating back to 1860 that prohibits "carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal" and lifted the ban on sex between consenting adults of the same sex. The Supreme Court threw out that decision, saying that only parliament could change Section 377 of the penal code, widely interpreted to refer to homosexual sex. Violation of the law can be punished with up to 10 years in jail. The Supreme Court's move shocked rights activists, who had expected the court simply to rubber-stamp the High Court ruling, and prompted the United Nations to call it a "significant step backwards for India."

On March 4, 1998, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual harassment at work can be illegal even when the offender and victim are of the same gender.

Chinese man imprisoned and nearly starved to death by sugar daddy
By Darren Wee
24 March 2015

A 20-year-old Chinese man was imprisoned and nearly starved to death by his sugar daddy who did not want any hassle after he left the younger man.

The younger man, surnamed Liu, was locked in the apartment his lover rented for him in Chongqing for five days. The term 'sugar daddy' started trending on Chinese social media after Chinanews.com broke the story.

Neighbors reported Liu to police after they saw him lying on the balcony, initially mistaking him for a thief. Police arrived at the scene and rushed Liu to hospital. Soft tissue injuries were found on his leg and doctors said he could have died if he had gone without food much longer.

After police fed him, Liu told them that he had locked himself in his apartment and did not have a phone so was trying to escape by climbing out the window. Under further questioning, he confessed that he was imprisoned by his boyfriend.

Liu said he was from a poor family and had left school at a young age to work in Chongqing. He met his 40-something lover, surnamed Zhao, through a colleague in 2014. The elder man was a of vice-president of a company and would pay Liu regular visits once every two nights and leave 500 to 1,000 yuan in cash each visit.

But a few months into their relationship, Zhao lost interest in Liu and started avoiding him. On their last meeting, Zhao told him he had to go on a business trip and Liu no longer needed to find him. He then locked the younger man in the apartment so he would not give him any hassle. Liu is in a stable condition.

Gay porn star Jarec Wentworth was arrested earlier this month by undercover FBI agents for extorting a wealthy man out of more than $500,000.

Wentworth, real name Teofil Brank, threatened to expose details of the unnamed victim’s embarrassing 'sexual liaisons' on social media if he did not meet his demands.

Brank, 26, is a performer for Sean Cody and Men.com and played a detective in a recent role. He successfully blackmailed the man out of $500,000 in cash and an Audi R8 valued at $180,000 in mid-February. But the man went to the FBI after Brank demanded an additional one million dollars and an condo in Los Angeles.

Brank made several threats over text message, which were included in the FBI affidavit posted on Str8UpGayPorn (NSFW). 'I do have a twitter and your photos. Lies can be made or Maybe it’s the truth,' he wrote. 'I want a new car, motorcycle, and both hands full of cash. I want a condo here in LA. Bachelor pad. You have a taste I like. 2 bed Max. Perfer [sic] one. I want 300,000 cash. You can and will. I want this ASAP like yesterday. So you can be at peace.'

The FBI set up a sting at a Los Angeles Starbucks and arrested Brank on at 8.30pm on 4 March. A loaded .357 Magnum revolver was found in his car. Brank was refused bail due to flight risk and will remain in the custody of US Marshals until his arraignment on 26 March. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison, if not longer for possession of a loaded gun.

Hungarians busted in Miami male sex-slave ring
By David Ovalle

Three Hungarian nationals lured three young gay men to the United States only to work as “sex slaves” for up to 20 hours a day in New York City and Miami, prosecutors said Friday.

The suspected ringleaders — Gabor Acs, Viktor Berki and Andras Janos Vass — were charged in Miami-Dade state court with human trafficking and racketeering. “This case serves as a reminder that sex trafficking is not limited to any particular race, gender, age or sexual orientation,” said Alysa Erichs, the federal special agent in charge of Miami’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Acs, Berki and Vass ran a company called Never Sleep Inc. According to authorities, the ringleaders met two victims in Hungary through a website called GayRomeo.com. Another victim was “living with gypsies” as a male prostitute when he met Acs through Facebook. In 2012, the three victims — in their early 20s — were flown to New York City to work in what they believed was a legal business in the United States.

The victims “believed they would only be in New York for a few months to make tens of thousands of dollars before returning to their homeland and their families,” federal agent Melissa Pavlikowski wrote in an arrest warrant. But in New York, the young men were forced to live in a cramped one-bedroom apartment while performing sex acts around the clock, sometimes with johns, other times on live web cameras, according to the arrest warrant. Up to eight men lived and worked in the apartment.

The victims got little money, had their travel documents seized and were not allowed to leave the apartment. One man was terrified to leave after “Berki told him that he was a policeman in Hungary with a lot of contacts there which [the victim] understood to be a threat to him and his family,” the warrant said. When another victim insisted he wanted to return to Hungary, Berki said he would be “able to make them all disappear as if they never existed.”

“These individuals may have come from a different country to exploit the vulnerable but they used the same basic trafficker tools of fear and intimidation to make their profits,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said. In August 2012, the group moved to Miami, where the ringleaders insisted the men would no longer be prostituting. But the operation resumed in a home in the 13300 block of Northwest Eighth Lane.

Man in Hungarian gay sex-slave ring in Miami convicted of human trafficking

Andras Vass Miami-Dade Corrections

A Hungarian national is facing up to 155 years in prison after his conviction this week for keeping young gay men as “sex-slave” prostitutes inside a North Miami-Dade home.

A jury late Thursday convicted Andras Janos Vass, 25, of human trafficking and racketeering. Prosecutors say Vass and two others ran a company called Never Sleep Inc., forcing the men to prostitute themselves for up to 20 hours a day. According to authorities, the ringleaders met two victims in Hungary through a website called GayRomeo.com. Another victim was “living with gypsies” as a male prostitute in Hungary when he met one company representative through Facebook. The three victims testified during the four-day trial in Miami-Dade. Jurors deliberated just 30 minutes.

In 2012, the company flew the three victims — in their early 20s — to New York City, where they lived in a cramped one-bedroom apartment while performing sex acts around the clock, sometimes with johns, other times on live web cameras, according to the arrest warrant. Up to eight men lived and worked in the apartment. Jurors heard that the ringleaders took their travel documents and threatened them and their families back in Hungary if they refused to work. In August 2012, the group moved their operation to Miami-Dade. Defendants Gabor Acs and Viktor Berki, a former policeman in Hungary, are still awaiting trial.

Vass faces a minimum of 21 years in prison. He will be sentenced June 2 before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Richard Hersch.
